The Government of Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. KALAIGNAR
M KARUNANIDHI decided to establish a Central Budget Data Processing Centre with the object of ensuring a meaningful and scientific analysis of financial data to enable budgeting using Electronic Data Processing equipment, (vide G.O.Ms.No.1125, Finance Department, dated 30.7.1971.). It was the intention of the Government to utilize Electronic Data Processing facilities in all spheres of budgeting and planning. In G.O.MS.No.573, Finance Department dated 18.4.72, orders were issued to establish the Government Data Centre with a view to process various analytical applications of all Departments.
The Government Data Centre is located within Anna University Campus on its northern side entry from the Gandhi Mandapam Road near Ranjith Road – Kottur signal.

The Commissioner is the head of the department responsible for overall administration. It is a cadre post of the IAS.
Officer on Special Duty / Joint Director looks after the installation and maintenance of all Hardware, Electrical, Software, Operations, Input & Output i.e., technical work. Under his guidance the Programmer executes various technical jobs entrusted to him with the help of the 3 Assistant Programmers. They are in turn assisted by 24 Punch Operators with the assistance and supervision of jobs by the Machine Supervisors. The overall co-ordination is achieved by the Co-ordinators. The outputs generated based on the data entry done by the Punch Operators are passed on to the Senior Console Operator and Console Operators by the Assistant Programmers to take and obtain usable copy of the outputs.
Electrical Supervisor supervises and maintains all the electrical and electronic equipments. He is assisted by 3 Electricians
The Asst. Director provides Supervision to all the work of Input/Output sections for processing Teachers Provident Fund for Panchayat union school teachers and co ordinates and monitors their work with the help of section supervisors
Administrative Officer is the head of the Establishment and looks after all such matters. He is also the Pay Drawing & Disbursing Officer. He is in the cadre of the Under Secretary to Government Finance Department and on deputation. Data Superintendent is also from the Secretariat Finance department. Data Superintendent is responsible for of general discipline and files related to the establishment matters. Bill Supervisor is responsible for preparation of bills and presenting them to the Pay and Accounts Office (South), Chennai-35.
